Also, to make sure the corners are square, check that the drawer front and back are equal lengths, and the drawer sides are equal lengths. As for length, cut the pieces to fit the cabinet openings (taking into consideration any clearance). See page 22 for information on making rabbeted front drawers.) (Note: All of this assumes that the drawers are flush front drawers. Once the width of the drawer fronts is determined, cut the drawer's side and back pieces to the same width. (This produces a joint that's symmetrical both on the top and bottom edges, see the photo.) That is, the width (height) of the drawer front has to be a multiple of %". It's best to plan the dimensions of the cabinet opening ahead of time to accommodate drawers that are joined with router-cut dovetails. But Grady was very patient and treated me like a valued customer.Cutting tight dovetail joints with a router and template is easy - but it requires a little planning ahead. My file has a lot of part editor cuts and the dovetail drawers took a lot of time in the set up. I want to mention that Wood Graphics (Lubbock Texas) did a great job.

But the file setup is still an issue for the machine operator. All in all the drawers came out nice and I benifited from the conveince of haveing the whole job done at once.Īlso because we did it once, hopefully, it will be easier the next time. Obviously the machine operator would not be too happy about spending the time to do that, but there is no way to know that it is OK before you cut them out. This would take an hour (there were a lot of drawers).

That means the whole job has to be redone, the CNC code generated, and the machine nest as well. Also aparently there are some crucial settings (fit clearance for one) that can only be changed in ecabs. There is no way for the designer to know what bits the shop will use, not to mention the material thickness. I am pretty dissapointed in how this is set up in Ecabs. The set up involves equasions that references the material thickness and the bit parameters. The dovetail machining properties have to be altered. I have cut out the job and we figured out the problem. It will also show every time the cabinet rebuilds after the drawer is added.

If you go into the DBE and open one of the dove tail drawer boxes in there, then chang the material thickness to 5/8 you get the error after clicking OK and it rebuilds the box. None of the cabinets in that job have dovetail drawers. The issue only shows up in when you use dovetail boxes. Just wondering from where you attempted the material change. I wonder what is different on your system? Or whether I changed from a location different than you tried?

Neither did I have the problem when changing from the Custom Layout. Were you changing to one of these three, or trying to change to something else?įor several of the cabinets (I did not change all), I did not get the error when changing the material to Maple-5/8-Dbx within the Drawer Box Editor. I noticed you have only three 5/8" materials in your cabinets. I am curious about where in the program you got this error - were you changing to 5/8" material in the Drawer Box Editor? Or were you doing it from somewhere else? I meadiately followed by "Unexpected error while handleing CNC data operation in Drawer Box Editor, reverting to previous body".
